Elvington Track Day

Elvington Track Day

At the end of February this year, John Clayton and I went to Elvington Airfield near York for a track day run by Javelin Motor sports. The night before we spent a good time polishing up the car so it was nice and clean when we left in the morning.

When we arrived we got the usual safety briefing and we had just about managed to check tire pressures, oil levels and we were off! Because there were a few of us (John also brought some friends in the church) we took it in turns to go with John whilst the other two either read, filmed, tried to hitch a lift with another car or went to admire the other cars (there were many of them). Unfortunately for one particular car, a classic V8 racer, it didn’t want to start and they spent all of the day trying to fix it! The track itself was full of challenging corners and chicanes but thankfully John handled it very well (in fact he was one of the few people not to spin!) It was also a great chance to speak to other people, when you’re not racing you are able to talk really easily because you both have a common interest.  Rev Phil Ball (from 'The Track' Scripture Union youth camp) and his wife Marion, together with Peter Fryatt and his wife Ruth came along for the day and had a number of laps with John in the kitcar.  If you are in to motor sports and have a love of things fast then something like this is definitely worth visiting. John, me and everyone else had an absolutely excellent day.
