Guidelines for Drivers wishing to display
'Christians In Motorsport' decals
We would ask all competitors wishing to display CIM branding on their car or race suit to sign up to the following:
1 –GIVING: 'Christians In Motorsport', as an organisation, needs funding like any other. If you are serious in your intention to be a local witness for Christ in your championship we'd ask you to help the wider witness of CIM by becoming a financial supporter of CIM's work. This helps to ensure that the central resources of the organisation can be made available in the wider context. See www.christiansinmotorsport.org.uk for more details.
2 –FAITH: Christians In Motorsport is committed to the historic doctrines of the Reformed Christian Church. We therefore ask that if you would like to carry our branding that you are able to sign our statement of faith. This is not a narrow or exclusivist document and has been kept as broad as we feel is possible, without overstepping what the historic Christian faith has always taken as being the benchmarks of an orthodox Christian faith.
3 –ETHICAL PARTNERS: We'd also ask you to consider carefully which companies will share the sticker space with CIM. As a Christian organization we feel it important that sponsors and supporters have products and trading policies in line with a normative Christian ethic. If you are advertising 'Bob's Slave Trade Suppliers' or 'Playboy Magazine' we'd rather you didn't display any CIM stickers!
4 –AVOID CONTROVERSY: Along similar lines, as a Christian you are no doubt aware of the responsibility that we hold as witnesses to the world. Therefore, if you are going to brand your car in CIM decals, please be aware that your conduct will be under even closer scrutiny than usual and try to make sure that your behaviour is consistent with the message being proclaimed from your car. If you're prone to thumping other drivers off the track, or on it, then we'd rather you didn't do it with CIM!
5 –EMPHASIS ON OUTREACH: A key aim of CIM to provide a platform for reaching out to the motorsport community and beyond. We all enjoy our racing, and many of us take it very seriously, but we appreciate that it is not the most important thing in life. Therefore, if you'd like to display the CIM logos please take some time to reflect on how this priority can be worked into your racing activities. Obviously there will be as many different forms of outreach as there are competitors. Some will be able to run large scale outreach events, for others it will be a case of reaching out to fellow drivers. But no matter what scale you operate on, please consider carefully what it means to be identified as a 'Christian in Motorsport' and keep your priorities focused on the real issues at hand.
Practically speaking we'd ask that you have some emphasis on outreach. This does not have to be honerous; for example, it could just be that you display some CIM leaflets on the bonnet of your car in the paddock and are willing to make the time to talk to people regarding the gospel message that CIM is committed to as an integral part of your days racing. Other ideas would include having an open bible study in the café (or Team awning) for you and your team/associates + anyone else who wants to come along on Sunday mornings. The above is easily achievable for clubman drivers but -for those whose racing is on a larger scale -we ask that the effort going into evangelism increases in proportion with the resources going into racing so that the outreach continues to be a meaningful and significant part of the team's activities. For example, it could be that a team running on a budget of £100,000 a year could tithe 10% into outreach and have £10,000 set aside for gospel hospitality, media relations, or outreach work at trackdays/races, shows and other events.
As a final thought, CIM does not desire exposure (via decals) to promote itself -the volunteers and enthusiasts who make up CIM stand to gain nothing per se from increased profile for CIM. We desire the exposure to promote Christianity and all our work is for the benefit of the Kingdom rather than for CIM or its members.
6 –CONCLUSION: If you are willing to fulfill all of the above criteria, we would be delighted for you to display CIM livery. N.B. We do not have currently have enough of a 'float' in the bank to buy a range of decals and sell them on to members. However, individuals have done this periodically and it has been a great help to people. Images are attached for you to supply to your local graphics shop -look under Sign Writers in Yellow pages (the more you order the cheaper the unit price).
You can tailor the size of the decals to specific spaces available on your car. If your championship is televised, bear in mind that the image will need to occupy most of the side of the car (as large as possible) to have any chance of being visible on TV. For small areas e.g. helmets you can order stickers quoting purely the web address ChristiansinMotorsport.org.uk (N.B. 'www' can be dropped as it is implicit in all internet sites).
Please note that your use of CIM decals/image is deemed to be acceptance of the above conditions of use.
